How Much Does Sofa Removal Cost in Birmingham?

Blogs
Sofa removal illustration

Sofa removal in Birmingham costs from £29.50 for an armchair to £92 for a reclining corner sofa, plus a £65 call-out that covers the team, the van and all the lifting. Everything below includes VAT and disposal at a licensed site.

Sofa removal prices

Item Price
Armchair, chaise lounge or reclining armchair £29.50
2-seater sofa, futon or sofa bed (no mattress) £55.50
3-seater sofa or L-shaped chaise sofa £66.50
4-seater sofa or reclining 3-seater £73.50
Corner sofa £81.00
Sofa bed with mattress £89.50
Reclining corner sofa £92.00

Add the £65 call-out once per visit, not per item. So a 3-seater sofa and an armchair collected together comes to £66.50 + £29.50 + £65 = £161.

Why sofas cost more than other furniture

Sofas, armchairs and other upholstered furniture can contain chemicals called persistent organic pollutants (POPs), often in the foam and fabric. Under Environment Agency rules, upholstered furniture cannot go to landfill or be recycled with general waste. It has to be sent for high-temperature incineration, which costs more than ordinary disposal. Any licensed waste carrier has to follow the same rules, so a price that looks too cheap is worth questioning.

What the price includes

  • Collection from inside your home, including upstairs, so you do not have to move it to the kerb
  • Two people to carry it safely, with care taken around doorframes and stairs
  • Disposal at a licensed facility, and a Waste Transfer Note for your records
  • Good-condition furniture passed on to local charities where possible

Ways to keep the cost down

Collect everything in one visit. The call-out is charged once, so adding a mattress, a wardrobe or a few bags to the same job is much cheaper than booking separately.

Compare with a load price. If you are clearing a whole room, a man and van load can work out cheaper than pricing each item. Our waste calculator shows both and picks the cheaper option.

Check whether it can be donated. Charities that collect furniture usually need a fire safety label and no damage. If yours qualifies, that may be the cheapest route of all.

Council collection or a private collector?

Birmingham City Council runs a bulky waste collection for households. It can be a good option if you are happy to wait for a slot and put the sofa outside yourself. A private licensed collector like us is quicker, usually same or next day, and collects from inside your home.
